Pole Vault Preseason Program at Foundation Strength

Aug 20

We are going to be the first to offer a comprehensive preseason training program for the pole vault. This will be a huge advantage for athletes in San Diego County!

Programs will begin in October and go until February. There will be two day/ week and three day/week training options starting in October as well as spot clinics (January-through track season).

Components of the program:
Pole Vault Technique (from run to bar clearance)
Strength Training
Flexibility Training
Speed Development
Mobility Training
Plyometric Training
Prehab and if needed- Rehab (old injuries)
Basic gymnastics for pole vault

The program is progressive and will build as the athlete is in it. Not all components will be trained at the same time. It is geared to have the athlete ready to start the season strong- but not peaked out. Recovery weeks will be factored into the training plan.  Athletes can join the comprehensive program until January 15th.  After that it is just spot clinics.

This could be the edge you need to take it to another level!

Client Bio: Mark Johnson- Pole Vault

Aug 09

mark_before_after_1

Mark moved out to California from South Carolina to train with us last year. He was a very successful pole vaulter in college and decided to have a go at the professional ranks.

When I first met Mark, he told me he was already “pretty fit.” The picture on the left was taken after the workout on day 1.

He was unable to do much of the lifting in college due to a back issue. With some help from our physical therapist, we were able to fix the problem and get training underway. By April, Mark had deadlifted 475lbs and jumped 17’10 (new personal best). And best of all, his back issue was completely gone.

This year he again improved to a new level.  Mark jumped 18’0 1/2 inch and qualified for the 2010 USA Track NAtionals next year.  This is the first step to his goal of someday making an Olympic Team.

Mark is continuing his journey with us at Foundation Strength.  He will be helping out with the pole vault development program beginning in October. Below is the picture of his 18 foot jump.  Expect big things from Mark in the future!

Flexibility Program
Nutritional Counseling

Programs will begin as soon as groups are formed. Group size will be 6 or fewer athletes with a coach at a time. The program will just be adjusted for the younger athletes.

There will be two sessions a week for the younger group and three sessions for the older group.  Sessions can be scheduled to fit the best time for you.

Brock Butler- Crazy Improvements

Aug 09

Brock Butler plays football for UC Davis.  He is already a freak of athletic ability.  He was a standout on the Carlsbad High Football Team while in high school. He came to me for help on being faster and more explosive.  We screened him and found that he wasn’t using his glutes and has very tight hips.  After some retraining and a lot of humble pie, Brock started training with my other college bound athletes.  From there things took off.  His best box squat at Davis was 425lbs for one rep.  This was his last day training with us before reporting for camp.

Watch the video.  This is what we do best- make people better- no matter where they start.

Foundation Strength Teams Up with SOCAL Athletics

Aug 09

Foundation Strength is putting the finishing touches on it’s facility inside of SOCAL Athletics’ new location in San Marcos.  It will serve as a second location for training.

The space offers a lot more space for sports specific training than our Carlsbad location and will also house a pole vault pit for off season training.  This is very exciting.  There is no place in North County to train for high school or junior high pole vaulting out of season. Practices will begin in October.  There will be a complete preseason training program for the serious high school athlete as well as clinics for just pole vault technique.

The new facility is located at 1482 La Mirada Street in San Marcos.  It is just West of Las Posas and the Elephant Bar.

Stay tuned for more info!  socal_outside
